About ADUs
ADUs are small self-contained living spaces designed to provide additional housing on a single-family property. They are also commonly known as in-law units, granny flats, or backyard cottages. ADUs can vary in size and layout, but must include a separate entrance, kitchen, bathroom, and living area. There are several types of ADUs:
- Detached ADU:
A separate structure that is not attached to the primary residence.
- Attached ADU:
A separate living space that is attached to the primary residence, extending the existing footprint of the home.
- Garage conversion:
This can be either attached or detached from the primary residence.
- Basement conversion
